Father
We use to be so close Hours spent together- hearts at rest He would comfort me in gentle arms While I leaned against his chest
We would wile away the hours Watching doves as they fly I would tell him of heartbreaks See tears forming in his eye
We were so close then My father and me Two as one Happy and carefree
As time went by I began to grow Other things caught my interest Our separation began to grow
I would walk by See him smiling at me I would hurry to my friends Pretending I did not see
Stealing a glimpse as I passed I could see his shoulders slump My heart would ache In my throat a lump
I always thought we had time With many tomorrows in store I would send so much time With the father I adore
Time has a knack Of quietly slipping away And so it was with me Until one October day
His tomorrows ended Much to my surprise And all my good intentions Cannot stem the tears in my eyes

OMG. Thank you. This was just exactly what I needed to read this afternoon. My dad died a little over a year ago and I know EXACTLY how you feel. Read my poem "I thought that it could wait". Thank you again. This really touched me.
