Meadow

I am a silent, flaming arrow shot into a dark, haunted forest
full of tangling roots and vines that make you trip
Every tree gives me shade
but if I'm not careful i'll crash into one and brake

In this eternal sea of shadows
There is a fleeting patch of light
Where the sun's rays promised to me by the bowman
I am able to bathe in and relish in existence

The meadow is clear of everything
but more importantly,
Of Everyone
I could build a fountain of liquid gold
I could douse myself in gasoline and burn up
I could crash the stars against the earth in this meadow
but not a single head would turn
not a single soul would pretend to be judge and jury in the eternal trial of society

The tall grass I am able to lie on and sleep,
not until the drums of duty wake me
not to jump back into the galleys,
and row to the fabled island of triumph in this unwinnable game
But until my eyelids are sore with rest

A stream flows through it,
irrigating the silent plants,
gentle, steady
This stream I am able to look into,
and know where the water will take my reflection next

And yet in my ecstasy I know
the sands of time still flow
and just as I stumbled upon the meadow
one morning I will flash back into the forest
into the thick, spiteful, adamant trees
who thrive in this seemingly endless sea of black tar
I can't see, but I have seen

and I remember

Only in the meadow it seems possible for the forest to recede
only in the meadow can I conceive of plains and highlands,
clear of darkness and malevolent traps
And maybe,
only maybe
find an arrow that shares my path and will fly with me
into the wild, blue yonder

Nice meadow. I belive many nof us dream of that "arrow that shares our paths and will fly with us".

Nicely done.

Thank you for a very enjoyable read.
