they corralled him again from the
wide open ground of the school yard.
he pleads to others who don't look don't listen.
a faint line of purple and blue under his eye
unhealed from the last.
that sick feeling again.
words hit before the physical.
it won't get any better it can't get any worse.
with nothing left inside
he opens his coat.

Okay. The first time I read this, I just sat here with my mouth agape, in stunned admiration, not knowing what the heck to say. This is such a sad state of affairs, and most would turn a blind eye to the problems of our troubled youth, but the truth is, this happens. And it shouldn't. Your write makes me feel so mournful for the loss of innocence. They say childhood is the best time of our lives, but for some, it is a hell that no one should have to endure. There has GOT to be answers. Very provocative write. Excellent post.

I saw EVERY school shooting in my minds eye as I read this. This line popped;
'with nothing left inside
he opens
his coat.'
