the absence of silence

You never feel more alone Then when in the company of silence The longing for chatter A meaningful conversation Some dialogue in response To your minds wandering thoughts But all you get in return Is the heavy weight Of air with no sound It wears upon you fully Your only cure is your own voice It tells you exactly how lonely you are
You only long for silence When you are by yourself And the only hum you receive Is the melody of two lovers The echoes of their pleasure Bounce off the walls While you sleep alone It is the loneliest sound in the world You long for the stillness But are stuck with the quiet reminder All around it surrounds you the absence of silence
