My Next Refrain

I never thought it would end Let alone this way, You said all the right things A woman could say
I gave what little I had And what I had not, I didn't want too much Or so I had thought
And then the day came when You pushed in the knife, It seemed more of a pleasure You squeezing out my life
You ignored all of my pleas You knew I was falling, It seemed you heard just grief When my sorrow was calling
You may have been quite scared It seemed a fast pace, But I was in no hurry Love is not a race
Maybe you had gotten lost Wondering what to do, But keeping it a secret Hurt me and guarded you
A friend had pulled me out Of the crash one day, Helped me to see colour When all I saw was grey
It's been a lot of months now Of getting back on track, I've stood up, forced a smile Gave you the knife back
And so the story closes I won't see you again, I'm be here just waiting Till my next refrain

The meter of your poem is outstanding. Godd structuring and flow. Great job. |
