Last Star On The Left

Last Star on The Left

The man awakes, not from sleep but from darkness.
Pain and grief, unimaginable has plagued him.
One man living as two, disparate, divergent and destructive.
Now at last, perhaps he has found awareness.

He has lived a life of pain, of such great sadness.
No help would he take in his eternal battle.
Like most in his condition he elected to go it alone,
To cure his grief and his schizophrenic madness.

It cannot be done, this ill-considered self-diagnosis.
We are but Men and Women without adequate prognosis.
There comes a time, a spark or some stimulus
That can force us to confront this abhorrent psychosis.

For me it was a matter of a continually shrinking universe,
A world that had been reduced to the size of one room.
No friends, no life save work, no contact with society.
My life had become insular, shrunken and perverse.

There are those in this world who recognize and care,
Through training and practice but just inherently aware
That there are many out there who just cannot cope
So with goodness within them our journey they prepare.

Exhaustive and painfully we are forced to face our fears
But the madness and suffering starts to withdraw.
To share is cathartic, both painful yet comforting.
With time and persistence we begin to roll back the years.

I have not really reached that safe and holy summit.
There is still more work and pain to undertake.
I set my sights and aim for the last star on the left
And I know in myself that I will never submit.

Well I certainly wasn't expecting that!!

Oh Al, what a lovely surprise! I am deeply touched, and very honoured...... Thankyou x

Always remember, that together we can move mountains, and I for one am standing
right beside you, arms outstretched ready to make a start and forge forward x

I'm sending you a big squeeze! :)

Lisa is our little ray of sunshine. ^_^ And it's wonderful of you to pay tribute to her with this dedication. I don't know how a heart could be bigger or warmer than hers. ;)

Your piece definitely seems to be one of cleansing and reflection. It is a wonderful thing when we can take control and find ourselves some comfort and solace within. Of course, as your piece suggets those around who understand and support are more than precious. ^_^ You have much to be proud of, not only with your writing, but your strength and will to overcome. You are an inspiration. Bravo, poet!

May each day bring new triumphs and more peace to your soul.

Lisa is a definitely a charmer and a sweetheart for sure. I like the way you worked her screen name so easily into your poem. Very nicely done.

Thank you for an enjoyable read.

Tim cool dude
