Each day grinds the dirt of inertia deeper in my eyes September sky's yellow hue bleached out by the smog of grey and white clouds Life is a cage inside a wheel Struggling to keep momentum as revolutions crush the soul Another turn to smash the will Where is the key to unlock this prison? Frustration is the bleak overlord of all that I survey Blinkers future aspirations, binds to the negative Bridges ripped apart by uncertainty and doubt The fuel of change, ignited by those who shun convention Burns against howling wind and is snuffed out If this maze has an exit then maybe it is overgrown Trapping me forever on an unfulfilling path No more than embryo, waiting to be born Slave to the rythm of a song that has no end This dirge without a melody, now mere cacophony Questions left unanswered, for I cannot find a sage Running blind to the precipice, where will I find my guide ? To steer me to renewal, to wake dead man walking Before the fire of willing grows forever cold.

I can definately relate to this poem; in fact, you've described how I've been feeling for a while now. My favorite lines were, " Slave to the rythm of a song that has no end. This dirge without a melody, now mere cacophony." However, the poem as a whole was masterfully written with strong imagery and powerful sentiment. Thanks for sharing this with the rest of us.

Good grief, ain't that the truth! I felt
like you were reading my mind, because
of late, I'm resembling a darn hamster
and the wheel is barely cranking! I'm
not sure if the tough times make
indecision and inertia harder to deal
with, because, let's face it, regardless
of the economy, a rut is a rut and if we're
human beings, we'll hit them.
You've captured the torturous cycle very
elegantly here. May you find your sage,
my friend and answers to move you
forward.
Be well,
~dawn |

To be bold in the face of uncertainty and exact any kind of change is an arduous task at best. I'm sure many would recognize themselves in your words, but few could put it so acutely with the impeccable descriptions you've arranged here. This is eerily familiar. Sometimes all it takes is opportunity knocking to shake us from the hold of the mundane and we are set on a new course, steering us away from the ruts in life.
A wonderfully worderd, excellent post!

The power to change sometimes eludes us.
The motivation to take the first step is frightening
But the longest journey starts with the smallest step
A change of direction or a change of attitude? hard choice
Positivity is the key
I struggle with it
Awesome - expect nothing less from your poetry Steve.
Take care
