The Fan

Contributed by dirk-velvet on Thursday, 22nd April 2010 @ 05:12:13 AM in AEST
Topic: oops

Once
when i was sixteen
or so
i was lying on the sofa
after a long afternoon of frolicking
in our pool.

A fan was on.

It whispered to me
a new way.

I fell into a revery
... so tranquil.

The melodic oscillation
of the blades
took the squabble
of my brothers and sister
still splashing about
took the hollers
between my father at the barbecue grill
and
my mother at the kitchen stove
and turned them into a
euphemism.

Now
it is the
only way
i want
and can
fall
into sleep.

My son
and
daughter
now
use a fan.

Sometimes
when i am up and about late at night
i look in on
them
and
their fans.

While watching their serene smiles
i think ...

"What have i done."

One of the reasons I dislike winter is because I
can't have the fan on. Drowning out the world in
a euphemism. What a perfect way to find peace.

This was wonderfully written. -- Achelois

Hi,

Euphemistically speaking .... you lucky sod!
That you have the weather that warrants the use
of a fan.

Nice tranquil piece of verse.

Tommy
