if i could take back
what i did those years ago
i would in a heart beat
their tears that i felt flow
bombs that were bashing
ending my enemies lives
people who were left
there throats cut by our knives
but i fell for her
her sweet love she gave
the beautiful landscape
tended to make me behave
i was a lost cause
my commanding officer said
no more missions these days
i just lay quietly in my bed
theres a ringing in my head
the terrible screams i hear
the women runngin for their lives
babies and children struck in fear
my job was
to do as he told
so i pillaged mi lai
the young, weak, and old
i was falling for her
she never gave back
i became bitter inside
love for them i would lack
for sould in vietnam
my heart was black
killing became a sport
even became my knack
finally i am home
no gratitude towards me
babykiller is what im called
even to this day, and im 73
but their was a point
i fell for vietnam
if i could go back
there would be no bomb

| I think this poem really brings out the struggles that some vetrans feel inside. They usually dont let it out because they believe they've done what they are supposed to and their should be no feeling behind it. The poem is great. I guess sometimes school can actually inspire writing. :) |

This poem really hit me because i have had family members who served in vietnam and you could see the pain in their eyes without ever having to say a word. You captured the depth and tragedy of our veterans in a haunting but honest way and this made for a wonderful read.

Oh wow. This is so well done! You really captured the
emotion those soldiers MUST have felt. (How could
they not?) It takes skill to be able to write from just the
knowledge of emotion. Be proud of this. You did a
fantastic job!
