Pain

Pain

I exist in metaphoric darkness.
I shy away from the light, the starkness, the reality;
So much pain, loss, confusion.
My mind is a maelstrom of negativity.
It is safe here, in the blackness,
Curled up in foetal protection,
I hug myself; convince myself that I am protected.

I dare not look within myself.
It is to throw open the very gates of hell
And sear ones eyes on the sadness and misery within.
I lost my heart when she was taken from me
And my soul made pitch-black with the poison of her absence.
So I remain here in the gloom trying not to think,
Because to think is to remember, letting in the light and the pain.

How strange it is to curl up in mock self-protection, when really it's just an attempt to lock the doors of our own personal hell so it doesn't leak onto anyone else.

I hope you let the light in one day and see the makers of those shadows were just some funny-looking lampshades (if you catch my drift...).

It's a sickness to think your sickness is inside and to lock yourself down because of it. Time to air out the attic, perhaps. Maybe it won't "sear one's eyes". This poem sure didn't, on the contrary. Short but telling.

To write this you must have been going through extreme pain but, it made for a great write. I enjoyed reading this poem very much.
