outside outside

Topic: NaturePoetry

it is almost as light as day
as the full moon rises so bright
the wildlife is not fooled
they know it is night

Eyes peer out from hidden spots
nose smells the air for danger
paws take first tentative steps
alert for predator or stranger

I sit on the bench and wait
as though part of the landscape
dozens of thoughts cross my mind
here is my quiet escape

Out here in the night all alone
i imagine myself in the bush
somewhere far away from it all
no external pressure or push

the birds have gone silent
the frogs chatter off in the murk
the chickens settle down
grace the yard where i lurk

come sit with me on the bench
listen but don't say a word
lets huddle together for warmth
listen for sound unheard
