She's a punch to the gut
The kind that steals the air from you
Leaving you an empty feeling, covered with a sting
She means no harm, she's just
Doin' her thing
Now I got a story to tell,
With a quick change of pace
All good stories start with a girl
And she was a miracle in disguise
Found in the least likely of places
But through common words
A friendship grew from the darkest of backgrounds
Drowning in an ice cold world
I'd like to say I saved her from herself
But I think, mostly
She saved me from my own doom
Without her I'd have no bone
Love follows close to friendship
Riding on its heels
I'm not surprised
I discovered a love that defines me
Granted, two years later
Better late than never to discover a treasure so fine
I was tripping over the words, and
The butterflies in my stomach
Almost took me away
When I told her what I found
Inside my soul
Soon she said those lovely words
Heart pounding, breathless
Nervously shaking...
It was a dream
That's what it felt like
A moment surreal
I sold my soul
For free
I gave her my heart,
I was willing to give it all away
She traded me hers, and I promised
To keep it safe
But a price is always payed
So now you can see, there's a
Red carpet rolled out before me
Hundreds of miles of highway, and I'm
On my knees crying
Desperately reaching out for her
But it's the blind leading the blind out here
A craving worse than withdrawal
It's been my only hope for years
To have her here always
Looking up into the stars,
I can read the future
And she's by my side, we're happy
And we're holding hands
And I can feel her arms around me, I can see into her eyes
And hear her voice
And I can feel her lips on mine...
It's a punch to the face
A stab to the gut
The stinging in your eyes
It's a feeling of longing so overwhelming
With each passing second, it kills you a little on the inside
