Wild, strong and free, The Spirit of the Wolf is untameable. There is a strange power that he holds, A feeling of ancient sorrow, that lends to beauty, That holds me thus enchanted. There's a mysterious look in his eyes, A silent glint that hints at the secrets untold, At a knowledge of the untrodden paths of the vast, pine forests, Hidden from the prying eyes of humanity. There's a strange smile that speaks of the unforgotten thrill of the chase, As he raced with the wind, whistling in his ears, Leaping over fallen trees, rocks and streams.
Fiercely loyal to his brethren, He lopes along his brothers, Playing and protecting one another, Unwavering, snarling in defial, to those that would harm them, Powerful muscles rippling under a shining, shaggy pelt.
Padding in the blending shadows of the night, Solitary and independant, Unconnected with the complexities of civilization, There he reaches a grassy hill, And beneath the pale white moon, He throws back his mighty head, And there starts he a magical song, Harsh, and incomprehensible to the ever-prejudiced, ears of man. Yet enchanting it is, for tis a whisper of fading beauty, And dream filled with age-old sadness, A yearning for a lost freedom, A lost honor, and a lost nobility of heart.
Sleep not, Brother Wolf. Lay ye not your gentle head to rest, For the night is yet young, And your proud Spirit, Remnant of the ancient heroes, Last defender of freedom in a semi-forgotten world, Must never fade.

An enchanting tale, I liked the imagery in it, and how I was drawn into the story from beginning to the end.
Beautifully written, thank you for sharing. |
