A Wave Goodbye.

Contributed by cashfan1 on Monday, 29th November 2010 @ 03:01:09 AM in AEST
Topic: NaturePoetry

To the desperate trees
The pigeons have come to roast,
High in branches stiffened by winter's wrath
They hum a tune of fond farewell
To the last dregs of light in lonely late November.
Through all the fields
A subtle blend of darkness roams
And in hedgerow and secret hollow
The earth groans under the weight of frost.
By river banks and mountain lake
The ice, a delicate membrane, slides across the eye
Of this mountain kingdom.
And as the last birds take flight across the water
They cast a monochrome of wonder
In the icy stillness.
And so at last this day is waved goodbye
By the frosty hand of desolate deep mid-winter.

BEAUTIFUL! BEAUTIFUL! BEAUTIFUL! As I read your poem, I feel like I'm sitting on a distant hill gazing at a breathtakingly beautiful landscape and observing all the lovely and profound events you so beautifully describe in your fabulous poem. "The ice, a delicate membrane." How clever you are! The last 2 lines of your poem are the real clincher. Very emotional...sad, yet hopeful that Spring may perhaps return one day. Write on! You've got super talent!!!!!!!

very picturesque, one can easily get blended into the whole scenery, always a very soothing trait...

A beautiful stark landscape is painted with your words. :) I think you mean roost in this sentence though. :)

'To the desperate trees

High in branches stiffened by winter's wrath
They hum a tune of fond farewell'
