Im on the wrong side of empty, Gas light glaring at me unfriendly, So much fuel consumed Running on fumes.
My wallet confines a medley of tears, My head dizzy with payments in arrears. I glance at my daughter as I change gears. Must not illustrate my fears.
She smiles at me with supper in her cheeks I muster a grin though my stomach shrieks Lady luck is AWOL and havoc wreaks, Wishing Murphys law has hit its peak.
And when I lay her down for the night With a smile so bright, as I tuck her in tight. I lie, "Everything is alright", Then repress emotion with all my might.
Im on the wrong side of empty, Gas light glaring at me unfriendly, So much fuel consumed Running on fumes.

Nice write, beautifully expressed, I can relate been in this situation many times. It's funny how your kids can be the source of the problem, they can be such a drain on resources, but they are what keep you going, make life so enjoyable and give you purpose. |

I am indeed happy at finding this poem, the second of yours I have read today. Again, nice work, a situation we can all relate to at one time or another. Beautifully executed poem, well done. |
