Soldiers in a jungle, a very special team, Army, Air Force, Navy, At times, there were Marines.
Pouring rain for hours several times a day. Backs against the soaking trees, some take time to pray.
Twenty miles behind the lines, totally on their own. Speak in only whispers, enemy all around.
Thoughts of what just happened, some of what's to come. Inventory ammo, lube and load the guns.
Happy times are nil these days. Thoughts are mostly family. Then muffled gales of laughter when a mouse falls from a tree. Something just that simple brought them ever so much glee. A needed moment, speck in time, to dodge reality.
'Move out.'The order's whispered. All rise and start to walk. Weaving through the jungle brush, stalk while being stalked.
The guide's a friendly local, hopes he can be trusted. An hour's walk to target, wrenching guts, daring mustered.
A rest before the carnage, all sit in quiet prayer. The grins begin to blossom, of a memory they shared.
Then muffled gales of laughter that a mouse fell from that tree, a needed moment, speck in time, to dodge reality.

inspirational, not just this one but the previous one as well. dark and sad poetry is what i focus on because the world is so dark and its easy to focus on the negative. im quite the happy guy its just easy to point out all the sorrow. you turn every day life into a lesson or something of worth. i read your poems and leave with something after i read. |
