On Hearing The First Cuckoo.

Somewhere amongst the sun struck trees, Shrouded in a cloak of secrecy, A Cuckoo trembles, His sly glance imagined only In the dark cloying dormitory of the wood. And somewhere amongst the leafy branches He goes about his dishonesty. And with a rich mellow voice He recites his ode to springtime, Repetitive, monotonous, without rhyme or reason. So, as the day floats slowly by, The hills saunter across the horizon And every blackbird, sparrow, thrush, Every branch, leaf and twig is hushed On hearing the first Cuckoo.

Hi Dennis,
If ever one of our feathered friends was
guilty of plagiarism, theft, and downright
deceit, then it's this little devil. You've
captured his wily trends precisely, and, I
suspect, with a touch of admiration.
