Thump. Thump. Thump. The Giver slowly beats his drum. Everyday he beats his drum, Without rest, for if he were to stop Those around him would cease To know music, life, and soul. They would no longer fulfill The needs of which they were chosen.
He never rests, but for a brief, Period of time, in which it seems That his stamina will falter, And his body will collapse upon The drum and himself as well, But his resolve shows, And he continues evermore.
The Giver never speaks, For his rhythm is solely Foundation without purpose, Designated as a keeper of beat. With every beat, every step, He brings attention to the fact, That the future is just One more beat away. When his beat ends, Nobody could know, For all they know, He's always been playing, Since the beginning of time.

It's interesting that you used the name "the giver" since there is a very famous philosophical book called "the giver."
I love the way you write. What a great poem. :) |
