My First Love

I saw you today,
The past swept in and feelings stirred,
But it didn't matter,
It was nothingness that occured.

My longing of what we once had,
Now lingering in my mind,
Trapped in the world of what ifs,
Like there is something left to find.

The truth is though that you are gone.
I lost you.
You won't be returning,
But my heart longs for you to.

My heart aches in the memory,
Of what we once shared.
I miss you,
And it's becoming far to much to bare.

I can't go back in time,
To change the course of fate,
But oh how I often wonder,
If I really am too late.

Even though I know the truth,
And you are gone forevermore,
I fight it with my every breath.
You're my first love and worth fighting for.

So since I have to let you go,
I just want to say,
You are thought about often,
And in my heart you'll stay.
