As I traveled on, a heart without song A distasteful journey indeed. Each step weighty while trudging along, Expecting more misfortune to be. While rambling on an old man be found, Decades an elder than I. Contrary to converse in frivolous words, Eager to simply pass by. To my dismay he had something to say, I felt my chest heave a sigh. "Why me," thought I, "and of this time?" But a courtesy in need to try. As he spoke first, each word I did curse, As he went blathering on. "Son," said he, "I wont preach, for meaning to teach, By your say so Ill move along." Curious was I of this passerby, Said I "tell me old man of whats at hand, And of things to be said." "If boredom sets in, of what I hear, Then consider conversation be dead." Said he; "Son, with no meaning to pry, But take notice did I, Your face reveals of sadness and dread." "What went so wrong as to make you forlorn, To not embrace of wonders ahead?" "Beauty abound serenity be found, Unhappiness you seek out instead." Said I; "Melancholic am I as each day goes by Albeit a man of great wealth, As I gaze at you, of only staff and robe, Pease of mind I seek for myself." Said he, "Possessions you have can be taken away, A loved one in a moment be gone. Live only one day at a time, And youll find the strength to go on."
