She quits pretending to like her new dress, Rejects fashion, yet remains guiltless. Her wardrobes old-fashioned unnoticed it goes But gives her the freedom like no one she knows.
He quits pretending to enjoy his work Despite the high salary and the perks; Many have advised him against this view, But he trusts himself and decides to start anew.
A strained relationship she tried to mend Always having to justify and defend But ends it now and asserts her will; She quits pretending to be in love still.
I gaze at the mirror and slowly recognize Those of my features I cover up with lies: A concealed smile and many darker spots, And quit pretending to be what Im not.

Right On! You know...Every time the social rule is challenged an individual earns their wings...:-)))
Seriously though...The strength of an eloquent & witty assertion like this is very cool in & of itself, not to mention, the creativeness of your format & your sense of flow...I dig it! |

This is a true to life poem and shows that you've put a great deal of thought into it. That is the kind of poetry itry to write. (Although I have not posted in a long while). Keep it up, Archie |

What a lovely didactic for all to live by. You have covered all the basis for one to live genuinely and unlike those living under the majority rule. I too am like the girl who dresses differently and does the opposite of everyone. Take care and may God bless you,

Dear ammar
This one is incredible -- blew me away -- the whole thing is spectacular and easy-to-read too -- but the ending tore me apart. That's good. Being torn apart has something to do with being vulnerable: but is it enough of a motivation for me to really quit pretending? I wish I could... Well: I'm not pretending when I say I love this poem! --flinthunter |
