A British Predicament (Summer Rain).

Contributed by cashfan1 on Friday, 8th July 2011 @ 04:49:09 AM in AEST
Topic: NaturePoetry

The air is fizzy with rain,
A fine summer vintage poured steadily
From the cut glass flute of the sky.
Mean clouds masquerading in summer finery
Patrol the outer reaches of my kingdom.
Blue tits grip their tiny hearts
And wing dip test the fizzing air.
A lone pony on the moor is looking for the light,
Shifting with purpose like sand in the hour glass
And wanting more so much more
She seeks the sunshine from the ruins
Of what is, after all, a very British predicament.

I love the last line, all the stiff upper lip that you can muster under the circumstance and aren't we surpassing ourselves this year with our weather!! she seeks the sunshine from the ruins that desperation to find some summer and even the birds and the animals are struggling. just another perfect British summer but then what else would we talk about!Great writing Dennis x

What a very informing write! I have always been told it rains in the uk quite often. I like your style of writing; it appeals to the imagination. Oh and in answer to your question there is also a "predicament" going on elsewhere; I'm in Florida and it's been pouring like mad. It won't stop until next week sadly. Well take care and God bless,
Deidra

This here is one gem of a description...both lyrical & defining...

"Shifting with purpose like sand in the hour glass"~you

But, now I'm gonna have, "I am the Walrus", stuck in my head all day...lol...

"Sitting in an English garden waiting for the sun
If the sun don't come you get a tan from standing in the English rain
I am the eggman, They are the eggmen, I am the walrus, Goo goo g' joob, G-goo goo g' joob"~the Beatles

I won't get strung up or anything if I mention the weather here in California, will I...?:-)

OneLove~me

Hi Dennis,

As I read this, it is absolutely ''stoating'' down.
A word we use up here almost as often as.....
'goodmorning!' Your descriptions of Mother
Nature in all her beauty and wrath are second
to none, my friend.

Tommy

I like the scenery and the beautiful images you convey. Very immersive. I couldn't help but pick up on a political undertone(I might just be grasping the straws) a note about imperialism and britain I believe.
