My poetry , a firework assortment budget is tight, but the box looks good and so I light each one and then wait for a fiery fate.
Whizz pop and bang, not quite enough so I return to my box of tricks and I light another... fizzzzzz. Pop! Why did I bother? I don't know! Maybe, Just in case.... this one lights up the world.
But instead, I stand In a smoky yard with untidily assorted burnt out cardboard relics that will be here this time next year (except soggier) to remind me of the truth for I know.... that I am cheap and cheerless.
And my fizz? it went pop on a dark night, dwarfed by the magnificence of other lights. But at least I took part.
Maybe next year I'll buy a bigger box.
