My Favourite Substitue

Contributed by Chenobi on Wednesday, 30th April 2003 @ 04:35:00 AM in AEST
Topic: SongLyrics

There is a man down the alley
Playing his guitar
Making these days easier
To go through
I'm standing there, waiting
For him to start again
And telling him: dear please
Get off these island roads

But he said: No
Baby, you can choose your love
Baby, you can choose your addiction
Baby, you can choose your religion
But music is my favourite substitute
For everything
A sedative
In this life of sin

And I got to fly on his favourite tunes
And I got high on it way too soon
Tripping, drifting away
Waiting every day, after I'd heard him play
It never got out of my head again
He'd said: Simply sing your song
Whenever things go wrong
And all will be allright so every night is here to take you among the starry lights
For a moonlight drive

Oh, Baby, if you choose for love
And baby, if you choose addiction
Baby, if you choose religion
Know that music is the best substitute
For everything
A sedative
In this life of sin...

I've had so much joy out of music but I've never really thought much about it till I read this poem
