Sobriety
Desire within me rages like a beast The aches and chills upon me feast I am wanton lust a feral child The lust for drink that drives me wild Does not abate not in the least
You are told in the recovery room To anticipate impending doom And yes the trials within a week Hunt out the meek the sick the weak Like vultures up on high do loom
Withdrawal from demon alcohol Which leaves you like a ragged doll Must be endured for ones own sake Although your bones do shake and ache And from your mouth your tongue does loll
Eventually peace does return A state you know you have to earn The pain the angst the shame you see Is just the cost the finders fee A lesson you will surely learn
The benefit is peace of mind An outlook sunny good and kind Unheard of only months ago When evil booze I did forego Yet purity Ive yet to find
