A true story
Aunt Rachel
I remember dear Aunt Rachel As sweet as she could be Who had in her front yard A great big apple tree She was an old black woman On my way to school she would wave at me Thats how I got to know Aunt Rachel And her great big apple tree I dont know why I called her aunt I guess it just came to be One day while picking apples Off that big old apple tree I came to love Aunt Rachel Her nephew of make believe A thousand apples eaten Off the big old apple tree And then one day Aunt Rachel died And no longer waved at me And from that day Ive never eaten Another apple from that tree
