Today the sun came rising Above the mountains high. I watched in awe as I saw The treetops touch the sky!
The ground with dew did glisten, As sunbeams downward fell. The sounds of morning filled the air And set off mornings' smell.
The splendor of this visage, Which I was blessed to see, Caused me to sigh in wonderment, From deep inside of me.
The vision was perfection. It could not better be. Unless of course you were here To share this morn with me.
Mountains stand ten thousand years. We're here just a few. I want to spend each one of them, Rising with the sun, and you!
My eyes have grown much dimmer, As they often do with age. But sunsets are just as beautiful, And as worthy of as much praise!

It's a nice poem, and I don't know why but, whenever I feel something is far more capable of being infinite, yet beautiful and compared with the finite human life, it makes me sad. I never understand what it is, because as far as I'm concerned death will come without the possibility of cancellation, and I'm guessing now it's because the simple beauty of the natural world at peace is going to be forgotten and left behind. |
