Letter Of Christmas Woe

Letter of Christmas Woe

The letter was propped up on the table
Lying toward me so I was able
To read my name but with a start
A knife lanced through my heart
And I realised what lay within.

On the radio the choirs played
But I was deaf, just prayed and prayed
That somehow on this fateful day
The letter would up and go away
For I did not want to lose my son.

Snow was falling on the grass
I saw through tear-stained eyes of glass
But finally, I made a move
And with shaking hands I did remove
The epistle of death I did eschew.

Silence was never so loud as then
That moment in time, the how the when
My golden boy had lost his life
How would we tell his beautiful wife?
And what now for his children?

He was lined up now for some award
After giving all he could afford;
His precious life for all our good
In hindsight now I wish he could
Have never left our shore for war.

My Dearest aliopterix,

I am overwhelmed by the tenderness & sorrow that you have shared.
The blank page is, for some of us, a sanctuary filled with time. . .
where we cannot undo our pasts but where we can spill our pain.
I know depths of this plain truth. . .
my tears bleed ink, as well. . .
At times, when my heart grows faint, it's all I really have.
What you've written is beautiful & gentle. . . so selfless & filled with tender loving-care.
I hope joy returns to you so soon. You seem to be so kind.
Mere words. . . I know. It's all I have. . . & a prayer for your own welfare.

Peace & Blessings
LL~
