Ring In The Darkness

Ring In The Darkness

I sit alone, the darkness my company,
My silent friend, my lover whose empathy
Is total, unquestioning and forever faithful.
What lights your heart tonight my friend
Or are you as I without love tonight?
The rains staccato rapping of the window pane
Barely raises a movement in me but again
Gods tears attract my eyes to the gloom.
Moonlight shafts into the barely furnished room
And like a sentient searchlight finds the table.
Sparkling like the stars it finds its mark;
The ring upon the wooden surface, a spark
Which fails to ignite my cold and aching heart.
My reflection stares back at me
And like me it cannot see
Or understand the injustice of unrequited love.
My old friend wraps me in its cold embrace
Much like yours now, I wipe my face
And the hot tears fall upon the diamond.

'Ring In The Darkness' is a stunning poem. The unflinching nocturnal tone surrounds the verse as a blanket. The sentiment builds from obscure to to precise. A fine piece of writing! --FH
