The Lonely Child

Topic: dedicatedpoems

He was such a lonely child
The way he kept to himself, ever so mild
He had so much to tell the world
But he was always the same, always within himself, furled

The burdens he carried, you will never know
The hurt he felt, he never showed
The tears were always close to overflowing
In his head, a lone crow is heard desperately crowing

He was just 14 when his mum died
All he ever wanted to do was run and hide
But you gave this child no mercy or respect
Instead you turned a nave eye to his neglect

Such care goes into these words I write
To truly show the emotions this boy had to fight
The simplicity of life is easy for you to see
Never did you have such hardship that made you want to flee

He prayed every night to an unanswering god
But god never did help out this lost sod,
You have no idea, none at all, what true loneliness is like
Its climbing a vertical wall, surrounded by nothing, an impossible hike

We spend money on stupid things like sport
Whilst a once, innocent kid is sent to court
If we gave money to the things that mattered
Would the world still be as tattered?

So this young child had never been cared for
Never had anything, he was completely poor
Yet he was the symbol of a true hero,
Powering on through life, after starting from zero

You go to school and you see this boy
You decide to take the *****, like his a toy
Yet you wonder why he is always so shy
All he wishes for is that he could fly

I am the child whose story you read
Please think before you do something, its all that I plead
You have no idea the loneliness I felt
Truth be told what made it harder was the pain that you dealt

Some nights I felt sick, so hard to keep it together
Always feeling alone, under the weather
I know there are others out there like me
Thats why im here, to try and get you to see

Do you know how hard it is to trust anything?
When you have been let down so many times
I dont want your sympathetic tears
I want happiness; theres been too much sadness over my years

Now this boy sits alone in his room of shadows
How he feels, no one but himself knows
Take a moment; you could save someones life
One little conversation could save so much strife

A joke could mean nothing to you and your mate
But for the accused, it can hold so much hate
No one so young deserves to be so upset
The way I felt, you will never get

I dont even know myself, when I look in my own eyes
I wouldve been long gone if I didnt have all these ties
I want to help the others like me, the lonely & the sad
I will be the answer to all who plea, no matter how bad

This is a powerful self portrait of sadness, Damian. Thank you for bringing it to the collective conscience of all of us. As far as comment, you inspired in me an urge to write a piece I'm gonna call "Hypocrite Priorities". I'll post it for you when I finish it. Everything seems to be a game or a "joke" to hypocrites. Again, powerful 'n' eye openin' piece. "I'm sorry" don't soothe nuthin'. God bless.
