Sitting quietly alone in a crowd Although she's silent, in her head she's loud She wears a smile for everyone to see If only someone heard her silent plea She's screaming, still screaming, why can't you hear? Crying inside, despite looking sincere If only, if only, someone would look They'd find what she lost, they'd find what he took She's watching and waiting, just to find out "Will someone learn what she's crying about?" Maybe one person will learn what she hides Even then there are potential downsides She hates to lie but is too scared to tell He puts up a mask and lies far too well What if at long last, her secret is learned And all that's accomplished is bridges burned?

She wears a smile for everyone to see, for me the pivotal line, having to hide what's inside, scared, vulnerable, won't be believed, holds everything inside because of a fear of being rejected.Powerful write, very poignant to today.I get angry that a woman or a girl is expected to smile! esp as you have so effectively spelt out that they are being destroyed inside.Powerful empathic writing that hopefully will open eyes. |
