Memory Winks

Memory can be a grouchy old fool Unattended, becomes a rusty, crusty tool No matter how much you clean, polish Reflections rarely stay as clear as we wish
Nothing remembered is what it once was Time changes the scene from clear to fuzz Past pictures can be sharp or misty grey Creating doubt of what happened that day
What is thought correct, nothing left to lack Use a grain of salt, give it some slack Depending on the state the mind is in They can be your worst foe or best friend
We try to keep them all pristine, prime Destruction waits as we surf through time It matters not the preservation, often recall Grasp is tenuous, be sure not to fall
Each second, our mind's eye snaps a picture Files the image away, safe for the future Watch the vault doesn't get water logged Causing the much dreaded brain fog
Maybe the best way for memories to retain Not only keep them held in our brain Carry them within our heart and soul Memories will stay safe, remain whole
