Razor wire

deep within the federal prison walls
in a world that doesn't inspire
they're aren't any bars
but lots of razor wire
bullet proof glass
around every turn
not much inspiration
it makes the body churn
you feel like an animal
locked up in a cage
nothing close to compassion
just hostility & rage
nothing much to see
but the razor wire & walls
no one gets out of line
walking through these halls
I admit it is much better
than state prison could ever be
but they are about the same
when you wish that you were free
the goal is very simple
if you do the crime
make sure beyond a doubt
you're prepared to do the time
I say this from experience
beyond the walls that don't inspire
your only hope is your sentence
behind the razor wire
so if you think of a perfect crime
well let me tell you this
they're is no such thing
& all you know you'll miss
from a poet with experience
who longs to be inspired
there is no inspiration
behind the razor wire
the hot shot poet
