From a bed of consolatory arms I rose The morning waving through the window Into the forsaken vow of yesterdays wed, Of two who met in the alliance of moons And the celebrating waters where the two sexes cross, Into the dark room of the first eternal light, Chasing our animal down to its rest On a breeding shoreline, by the smack of the door; Retrieving the innocence of shadows On a time-escaping breast, Of winds that meant no marriage of the heart. The sun stung wide awake the preys of the nightfall Street we sheltered in each others lie, In the morning that grew fast from a parting cloud And all the days we married alone.
