I knew I was a big kid, when daddy let me go See the boys and ride the horses, and buy tickets for the show The show of life, he said, is one that can hurt you But only if you drift and smile, half-awake the whole way through. I knew I was a big kid, when the big bad wolf found me He held my heart and caught little red, as rosy as can be. The day he ate my grandma, and the hunter did not show I knew my dad had done the wrong thing, the night he let me go. I knew I was a big kid, when prince charming didnt come Daddy told me he was unreal and that I shouldnt be so dumb Dumb enough to think that the glass slippers could be true That a glass slipper could grow with me, the faster that I grew I knew I was a big kid, when I fell down the rabbit hole And found my way back out again, missing nothing but my soul But it doesnt matter much that its missing anyway Who needs a soul when youre grown up and dont have a place to stay I knew I was a big kid, the day I sold myself For money and love to pay for a room that didnt have a shelf A shelf to keep the remains of a life I used to know Alice dear, dont run so fast, theres monsters there you know? There were no monsters, just a house, made of gingerbread Where my only real friend lived, though now shes more than dead My daddy was wrong, the day he left, and set me wild and free As now I know, there is nothing more, than a little kid in me
