A soldier is coming home today, From a foreign land, so far away, His task complete, his duty done, No more to wear the rising sun,
Someones son comes home today, The boy they raised their special way, The years of care and all they taught, Despairingly now counts for nought,
A husband is coming home today, By her side, no more to lay, The life she hoped for, come what may, The flowing tears have washed away,
A father is coming home today, No more to hold and hug and play, Small arms reach out as he goes by, Not knowing why this is goodbye,
A soldier is coming home today, From a foreign land, so far away, Our nations flag now wraps his soul, Another son wholl not grow old.

Such a proud, touching tribute to those who stand for their home. We tend to forget the heroic measures they give to keep the home fires buring, and the ultimate price they pay. Great, great write. Thank you for sharing, P |

Hi,
There are so many of them and until we
acknowledge the futility of war, there will
continue to be. As an ex serviceman I shudder
sometimes when it's said ''He/she fought for
queen and country.'' Not so. They fight for
each other (comrades in arms) and they fight
to survive in order that they may once again
walk into the bosom of their families - which
you have so succinctly indicated in your
poem.
Well said, and God bless them all.

This is sooooo sad. :(
Unfortunately war may be necessary to help protect the free and innocent. In my eyes, sad but true. It's disheartening when the soldier is killed and the worse is the child you speak of doesn't understand why this is good-bye.
Great poem.
