Gawain's Gifts

Gracious the Lord is my dear For providing all I need and bestowing on me boons Come and partake of my God-given joy And in return share with me all you delight in my boy
I am ecstatic as you render me your successes Surely such gifts are equal to Sir Gawain's Except the origin of noble love I trust remains Yet if that shameful sash is revealed Forgiveness and understanding shall adorn you instead
Oh chivalrous lover--so courteous and humble How unworthy I feel to be your fair maiden Yet kisses sweet as sugar reassure my wavering heart That you, my Gawain, deem me your pearl, your greatest blessing

Sir Gawain and the Green Knight is one of my favorite pieces of literature, so this poem was obviously right up my alley. I absolutely loved reading this! |
