The Reach of a Dock

What power in a dock, when you notice them, resting over the meekest of natures spills, it keeps the calm, laps the surface, Bringing the center within reach
When you walk out on one, if you walk there- its the closest you come to walking on water, You can live the solitude of a peninsula, You can take the memory of the shore
Who keeps them? a simple question- Holding up midday, in slivered palms while the fish laugh in its shade, its slatted, to the bottom shade
And when a dock is stacked, with day like moonlight, sewn in by the cold ash of stars- it stills the occasional blind moth, it groans beneath the tree frogs rattles
A dock is no more than wood, most weary and molded, a clock hand over the sun crazed water, but when you walk out on one, if you walk there, You might forget to ask, how long should I stay? You might forget to ask, how long should I stay?
