The words crawled out of your mouth
but they didn't float up to join the starts
like you hoped they would.
They lodged themselves
in all the separate cavities of my ribcage
and burrowed deep.
They live in all the valleys of my shoulders
weighing down my skin
and they never stop pushing apart my thighs.
What if one day
the void between them becomes so
all-consuming
that my legs just disappear?
The words have become permanent residents
of a none too willing host
and they're so heavy on my skin
that they don't let me breathe.
