The pool lurks in the dark forest placid and cool Its surface a mirror reflecting the shadows Do not go to the pool they said There is nothing there but fear and despair But the maiden ignores their warnings and happily bathes in its chilled waters Scrubbing at the dirt and stains on her pure white skin Washing and washing at the film and grease that only seem to increase with time
The maiden goes to bathe in the pond and comes out a hag

Interesting - not lake or pond; just, "The Pool". Like it! |
