A Million Miles Away

Who on earth wouldve thought Id end
up here on the other side of the globe?
I left behind my family, friends,
and the girl who meant the world to me.
No hug, kiss, or goodbye, not even a sentiment,
due to my initial hesitation and trepidation
of taking on a new job that required relocation,
my single breakthrough in this economic recession.
Been working nonstop ever since I set foot here two months ago.
I try my best to call people back home,
but sometimes theyre too busy to pick up the phone.
Now theres just a select few I still keep in touch with,
only to neglect the many I used to put up with.
Even though Im a million miles away,
theres millions more I have yet to explore
with fascinating places to see, diverse people to meet,
and a long list of career goals to complete!
An exciting journey on my own,
but Im actually not alone
as I received a warm welcome from the local folks!
I have no idea when Ill be back in my hometown,
but it seems Ive made this my second home now.
