Reflections of Change

Golden rays of pure light shine from above
Down to earths surface, illuminating the cool water
As I sit and reflect on the past months in succession
I stare down into the glassy water, and smile.

I dont recognize the face of the woman staring back.
Her eyes are deep and bright, glowing with love
A love so deep and bright, so strong and bold
Even dark clouds could not shade it from being told.

I might have caught some glimmer of recognition
When I looked more intently, the eyes showed fading pain
A world left behind, but not altogether forgotten
She stared back as her story was now ready to be told.

It seems she had been rescued, a true damsel in distress
By her knight in shining armor, a black tux with silver vest
He had swept her off her feet, helped her laugh and even cry
She had grown to love him, as the months came and flew by.

They had barely been separable for the months in between
Dinners and walks in the park, and even a little ice cream,
But she had longed to be something so much
more than a close pal or a good friend,
She wanted to be his special someone,
to share his life with him.

One clear starry night, as he waited by his car to leave
He had stuttered and stumbled through a massive speech
She couldn't recall all he said, but one thing
she would never forget
He had asked her to go steady; the word yes had left her lips.

That night was the start of a journey,
one that takes a lifetime to complete,
Her eyes told of storm clouds that had threatened to defeat
They also told of rainbows after the storm had passed,
And how their love was true, she was sure it would last.

As I looked a little closer I realized what I had gained
And how with one simple word your life could be changed
You see, I saw myself reflected there in that pool
The way I was is no more, not now that I have you.

I am sure that you have noticed the change
that youve made in me
Not for worse, but better my time with you has left me
You chase away my dark clouds,
and help me go that extra mile
Youve made me see my beauty and helped me find my smile.

The months have come and gone,
since that clear and starry night
Weve had our up and downs, our laughter and our fights
But one thing I know Im sure of, I love you more and more
Ive found you are my everything, my godsend,so much more.

Thank you for the love youve given,
the tenderness that you show
For all the support and caring that
have helped me learn to grow
May this be the start of forever, continuing never to end
Of my life together with you, my very best friend.
