He opens the door
and staggers into his home
and once he's inside
he vomits upon the floor
his neighbors say he's stupid
because he drinks so much
but they don't know he's grieving
because he lost his son
No matter what people say
there's a heart within each person
we all cry and breathe and pray
and when we forget that
it brings to our world dismay
a life is a life
so stop your judgements
and have empathy
He works at the mall
where he is a cart attendant
He does his job well
but still he is called retarded
What his co-workers don't know
is he struggles with depression
and their jeering makes things worse
it deepens his repression
No matter what people say
there's a heart within each person
we all cry and breathe and pray
and when we forget that
it brings to our world dismay
a life is a life
so stop your judgements
and have empathy
I saw on the news
a story about a killer
he shot some people
and then he killed himself
and some people said
they did not know why he did it
although they knew
that he was a destitute
No matter what people say
there's a heart within each person
we all cry and breathe and pray
and when we forget that
it brings to our world dismay
a life is a life
so stop your judgements
and have empathy
How long will we just stand by
watching how our nation dies
killing off community
just to get our foolish dreams

| I really loved the message in this poem. So many people don't understand the importance of family and community anymore. It is sad watching people hurt each other and judge each other every day. There is always a black sheep. |
