Good-Bye Cruel World

Contributed by softerware on Friday, 7th June 2013 @ 02:34:38 PM in AEST
Topic: StoryPoetry

I dislike reality! What kind of life is this?
Only sleep brings happinessdreaming brings me bliss!

So I tuck my sleepy head down, and bid my spirit to fly,
Adrift above the musty bed on wings of silk I lie.

Through the window, light as air , the cloak of my existence
Spreads across the sullen sky at my desires persistence.

Below the rooftops melt away, oblivious to my flight;
Endless webs of freeways cut white scars across the night.

Smaller, farther shrinks my world, my destiny below.
The tinyness of all my life comes sorrowful to know.

Reality escapes me as the planet slowly fades;
Unbound by worldly cares at last, to play my sleek charade!

Far away to who knows wheretime soon disappears;
And in the soundless blackness; I am all thats here.

Panic stabs my joyride! How far have I driven?
I cannot see and cannot find the world Ive quite forgiven!

I struggle in slow motion;
The substance mocks my haste;
(For dreams are made for languid walks and never should be chased)!
By summoning my reason I have wrenched my spirit to flesh;
My hauntings and realities destroy themselves to mesh.

Im lying on my bedroom rug in piles of tangled covers;
To tapping sounds of raindrops as a sleepy sunrise hovers.

Jangling muffled upside down, my snooze alarms uncertain
Of all the fuss thats taken place behind my bedroom curtain!

How close I came Ill never know..
But had I not looked back;
I may have been there still in that friendless inky black.

But sunlight chose to pierce the dark, and splash in lacy pools;
Across my bedroom floor; upon the gratefulest of fools.

I really do like this!! Perfect description of sleep and the escape it provides from our mundane and sometimes cruel lives. Well, for me anyway.

There are times I'm not too fond of reality either.

I do, however, wish I could control my dreams (like the guy in Freddy's Dead) instead of these weird dreams I predominantly have.

I really like the way you made this the real feel of sleep state and dream state.

Thank you for an enjoyable reading experience.

Hi softerware, There are to many gorgeous turns of phrase here to list. You have done an exceptional job as relates to imagery...just exceptional. Super cool...I could go on, but suffice to say, this is impressive and defining....well done, my fellow traveller.

I wrote a short poem that is in the same vein as yours. I think you do a better job defining this observation. Mine is here, for your intellectual consumption. http://www.your-poetry.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=177871

I read it again now.
This was a very wordy and intense write.
What a masterpiece. So much at play here. Wow!!
