Old man Sunny was a friend of my dads,
he lived on the mountain
with lots of his own land.
The river and fishing, the mountains surround
no busy freeway,no little town
just the wilds of nature
so special for us.
Before you reached old Sunnys Place
there were the meadows
and to this day as I sit here and write
I can clearly smell the smells of wildflowers
the scent of pine
and hear the wild tall grasses
sway in the summer winds.
Tall sunflowers, taller than me
and a little brother tugging on my arm
run and run it was a magical place
big summer sun warming the face
priceless.....
It was just us out there,sleeping bags under the stars
and we had all the fishing holes all to ourselves.
Sunnys place, well he liked his privacy
and only by invite the meadows would one see.
I often wonder, what the place looks like now
but in my little girl memories I see it plain and clear.
Hear the hoot owls, and the doves singing plain
the campfire glow,fresh caught fish in the cast iron pan
burning marshmellows on stick
I really hope that someone new moved in
and kept his place up
and appreciated it as much as him
and had a friend or two
that had a little boy and a girl
who may be right now
enjoying the same scene
and running through the meadow
and catching fish on their poles
because they had all the private fishing holes.
Memories made, I hope it is so
Sunnys place a time whisper
a loving echo.
