Outside deterrents knock at my door
Their waves of hate swamp my shore
Washing away my sandbags of hope
Destroying my fragile ability to cope
Injecting anger's poison into my vein
Determined to exert their dictator reign
Drowning my ears with a corrupt song
Tempting me with their wine of wrong
Holding tight to what I know is right
Close my eyes against their dark sight
Knowing that good resides within us all
Grasping hope's hand to cushion my fall
Loud, it's promise of a future strong
Understand now just where I belong
Digging deeper as I build my walls
To shield me from their evil calls
Hope is the main stay of my soul
Love is what keeps my body whole
Dreams give credence to make life great
No longer allowing hate to facilitate

| A nice poem of struggle and staying strong. keeping a nice rhyming flow while being able to use the power of methaphors, whch can be hard in rhyming poems. |
