I do not ask for happiness It would be too ambitious All I want is a vague guess Of a sun behind the clouds
But to believe in this luck I am way too suspicious And so while everyone looks up I make the best of looking down
I favour pain for it is real I settle for a feeling And vertigo is what I feel When looking down a slope
A vast fear I must suppress Or I'll be always kneeling I do not ask for happiness I only ask for hope
