Bye dad

Contributed by shelby on Thursday, 1st May 2014 @ 01:09:01 AM in AEST
Topic: Grief

I never made it back home
to sit by your side
as you slowly slipped away
to the other side.

Peaceful rest, offered you
at Heavens lovely gate.
Kelly waiting with a smile
for you this past year
he did patiently wait.

Today the wind blew hard
blew through the pines
and it reminded me of you
and our adventures
on the mountain sides.

The tears came,
and they ran hard
like the Snake River
a swirling flow
no stopping it for awhile.

We didn't get along great
while on this earthly sod we trod.
Try as we may
just never really seeing eye to eye
an odd relationship mixed together
that was us.

Maybe across Heavens gate way
some time we may have a chance
to try once more.
Daddy little girl
together on that distant shore.
And be who we should have been here.
Not sure but Heaven is magical like that.

Tonight is a whirlwind
of memories soft and sweet
some not so pleasant
I try to sweep them off
to another place.

Tonight it is sinking in
sinking in my heart.
You are gone
to late for one more
fresh new start.

But a mere two weeks ago
we spoke for awhile on the phone
and we say I love you's
before God had the chance to take you home.

Im just sorry dad,
I couldnt make it back to you
and look you in the eyes
hold your hands
when we said our I love you's.

We did and we didnt
it seemed that is how we were
but I guess what we said before the end
trumped anything ugly
that both of us said before
least I am sure hoping so

I do love you
and I miss you
for tonight I will just cry.

Hello shelby (Michelle).. It has been a while..This poem shall not be critiqued by me... For it is heartfelt and true.. In life, us poets lose and gain... It is our duty to write as poetically as we can about both.. And, sometimes as heroically as we can muster.. I believe you did excellent in this case.. Take care...

<3 hello sweetheart,

I am sure your Dad can see what's behind this, the love and hope you have, and the pain.

I bet he understands.

I know we don't speak much, but if you ever need me, I hope you know where I am.

Much love,
Phyllis.

Michelle, please accept my sincerest condolences. This is a beautiful tribute to your Dad, and even more than that it is honest, and straight from your heart. Goodbyes are hard, and they are never quite how we want them to be, but I truly think things happen just as they should at times. It is a blessing that you two were able to say goodbye, and I hope it brings you some solace during this difficult time.

Sending you love and strength. Big hugs.

Dear Shelby, I'm sorry for your recent loss.
My thought is this expresses much that
your dad did know. I know that having a daughter is a very special thing for any man to have even if you didn't always seem to see eye to eye on things.

My sincerest condolences.

Peace!
