the best thing I never had

Contributed by reprobate on Sunday, 25th May 2014 @ 08:54:46 PM in AEST
Topic: LostLove

So...here you are
Wanting to try...again?
Spent a couple of years
Picking up pieces
Spent a few more
Trying to reassemble them

Never once told me
What more you required
No hint, nary a clue
Just...gone...out the door
Was it good for you
Smashing all my dreams
Like it didn't count
Or ever mattered

Now you're back
Life really sucks
Almost free, you know
Only a link or two to go
That shadow at the door
New chains, perhaps,
maybe even more

Chains, I can handle
It's the pain I can't
In case you weren't aware
I'm not a masochist
And you'll yank those chains
Dragging my broken heart
Through my shattered life

So...here you are
Here we are
Yep, almost free
Pretty sure there'll be a next time

This is like having a conversation with a friend..
listening for hope, wanting to help, and then the line that brings full recognition "dragging my broken heart through my shattered life". You have described the helplessness of devotion with a knife, not a pen, and left us the image of your soul lying on a sacrificial altar, willingly.
Most chilling, and very beautiful.

This is good, don't know who or why or anything about the one it is talking to. It's great writing is all I know. I enjoyed reading it.

logical puzzle, why do people like to put puzzles together as a hobby... most especially when they get good at it. Where are they when I need them?

You have great skill.

Peace!

wow! this is so moving and heartfelt, some
people are psychic vampires; they deplete
one's mind, strength and happiness, this one
you write of sounds even worse, coming into
and out of your life like that, definitely add
more locks, put up a high fence, and maybe
get a dog or two: {hopefully she's allergic!},
honestly this poem is totally relatable to
anyone who has ever been tormented, it is a
beautifully penned piece,

big hugs n' love nessa

I'm not assuming this is first person. It can be fun to write from different perspectives.

Pretty raw output...raw is good...cathartic writing.

I felt that hurt once. It scarred my heart to a 'never again' stance. I'm not sure to this day if
that was wise or not. I hated shrimp as a child....went until mid thirties before I took even ONE bite of shrimp...turns out they are delicious! I spend over thirty years missing out on one of my favorite and most healthy meals.

Good write.
