Gypsy, Tell Me

Topic: MiscPoems

Sounds of laughter bellow around
A fair of fun has come to our town
Rides, games, food, a few oddities
A different world within its own cities

I walk among the thrilling spectacle
Sauntering along eating a popsicle
Watching the children screaming above
Smiling at the young people in love

To the left of me I quickly spy
A sign decorated with a big blue eye
Calling me to come, take a chance
Will my future hold money or romance

A gypsy woman sits with a crystal ball
Mystical symbols decorate each wall
Beckoning me to take the other chair
She'll tell my future, here at the fair

Common sense screams - laugh and leave
It's a waste of money for I don't believe
Aw heck, why not - it's entertainment
She can't know my future's containment

She tells me past things she can't know
She picks up urgency as the words flow
Goosebumps rise with each single word
How can this be - it's just too absurd

She goes silent as she begins to frown
Do I want to know what's going down
In my future, she sighs, I'm the only one
I giggle, yeah sure, this is only for fun

She spins a tale of heartache and fear
Though she explains it's not all clear
For money, love and other sweet stuff
My dreams will have to be enough

I admit I didn't like her sad prediction
Of my forthcoming life's description
As I left, I chanced a glance her way
Did she tell my fortune - only time will say
